The more it snows (tiddely pom)......

Had a call from a friend yesterday who had never built a snowman! So, armed with carrot and a bag of coal off we went to help rectify the situation. The result was a rather proportionally challenged snowman tea party!


Found a rather cold queue at the bus stop on the way home!

Off to rescue my chickens now who think the world is about to end with all this white stuff falling out the sky.

So whilst reciting the words of Pooh or rather AA Milne to be precise 'the more it snows (tiddely pom) the more it goes (tiddely pom)' off I goes to light the fire to stop my toes (tiddely pom) from getting colder!

Hot Koala!

Had a lovely email from my friend Shireen in Australia who sent me these pictures of a georgeous little koala who found his way into someone's shed to try and cool off during the heat wave they are having. The owner put out a bowl of water for the little fella, who tested the temperature, had a good drink then clambered on in!

When you don't have a telly you forget to check up on what may be going on in the world, so I was rather surprised this morning when I looked out the window! More snow! The course I should have been on today has been cancelled and we are pretty much stuck in the village. Not a problem though, have seen lots of the neighbours out and about playing in the snow, and its been lovely to catch up with them.

Mirrors and chainsaws

Right. I am going to write this now as tomorrow I may not be able to move my arms! Don't worry, I am not ill or anything serious - I have just been to a body combat workout class! Oh my, I am laughing now at what I must have looked like, well actually I know that because for reasons best known to themselves (apparently to help you with your posture etc) they insist of putting floor to ceiling mirrors in the dance studio. I have absolutely no desire to see myself wobble, sweat and get progressivly redder during the class.
I did think I was doing reasonably well until the move which the instuctor called cracking the whip that succeeded in sending me into a fit of the giggles (on my own with no comrades in the class, oops) this just reminded me of the exact action involved in starting up our reluctant chain saw!

Am planning on soothing my aching body with some sewing for the rest of the day. Rest assured I shall be continuing toning up the abdominals with regular giggle attacks as I think on that one hour infront of those mirrors!

Shopping and wine

Couldn't go out in the snow again without the camera so heres one of George having a little rest from chasing the ball!

Had some messages from my friends in Australia, they are all so hot! The heat they are enduring at present is across the whole country and compounded by power cuts, I do hope it will give them a break soon. I read yesterday that apparently they have lost nearly 90% of the wine crop for this year (that would be grapes wouldn't it!) which I guess will mean that a nice drop of Australian red may well be costing a lot more next year. I am making a note on my shopping list to stock up now.

Speaking of shopping lists, we are following a new method for shopping in the Land of Cuckoo. We noticed the other week that we seem to have been spending a huge amount of money on food lately. Admitedly, we have never been very good at following a list and we have certainly never set ourselves a budget but it was getting daft. So now we have a set amount which has to see us through until the next month and we have to use up leftovers and be more creative with menus. Now this is probably what everyone else has always done, I know our parents are pretty skillful at this but now it is our turn to learn.

Good news - the chickens came out of their house all by themselves today! They are still not happy about the snow and have no desire to go and take a closer look but it was an improvement on yesterday. Speaking of whom - I had better go and shut their door so we don't have frozen chook.

Snowy Monday and invisible sheep

Busy times! Cannot quite believe it is Monday afternoon already. We had a fab dinner at the local pub on Saturday night, great food and company. Have now finished the workroom and even had time to change the bedroom around a bit too! So now we all have much more space everywhere! I am sure it wont be long before we have filled it all up again!

I am fortunate enough not to have to go out in the snow today, other than walking the dog. He loves the snow, acts like a puppy first thing in the morning when he sees the new snow. Unfortunately the chooks are not so impressed and had to be lifted out of their house this morning. They refuse to walk on anything white even after I have raked the ground to make it look normal and swept up the snow where I can. I am fully expecting to have to air lift them back into their house for bed tonight too!

Still looking for the sheep? I promise you they are there!

Re-organising!

OK so I haven't decorated the workroom but I have set about re-organising the furniture so that it creates a better work space! Much to the amusement and bewilderment of others, I am incapable of working if I have decided that there could be a better way to store things! Just a few more bits to be put back and that will be done and I can get on and create with my new fabrics.


Got the lovely fabrics at Maggies (Sunflower Fabrics), she is always so inspiring and I am just itching to get on with sewing having spent just a short time with her this week.




Found these bulbs emerging in the flower bed when clearing out the weeds, have no idea what they will be as I cant remember what was there last year and have no recollection of planting anything!


Off to put the finishing touches to the new room and then out for dinner at the local this evening.

Sunshine and spring cleaning

A beautiful day! Sunshine, real bright sunshine, makes it a pleasure to be outside again. Chooks had a spring clean and vast quantities of laundry has been done!

Have been getting the year organised, trying to decide which events to attend. Do I do the same as last year or try some new places? Who knows with the change in spending habbits over the past year. It seems I have opted for a mixture of both tried and tested and new territory!

Not feeling like decorating now that the sun is shining, if it lasts then the workroom will continue to be a hive of activity! Please no more dark and dank days!
